KYOKUSHINKAI MEETING BETWEEN THE ORIENT AND THE OCCIDENT
Japan - united states - Canada

The occasion of the
Gold Cup Mas Oyama organized by the Ohan Brothers and supported by Claude Bouchard and Guy Salter held the weekend of March 24th and 25th, 2001, brought together the orient and the occidental karate worlds. The special Japanese and American dignitaries honoured us by accepting this special invitation from the Ohan Brothers to assist in this competition.During this challenging event the Canadian team of Senseis and Shihans representing IKO and NAKO and myself from FKCO unanimously agreed that there was room for improvement.
The occasion was given to me to take part in a very significant meeting between the dignitaries, branch chiefs and school directors of the various affiliated federations of Kyokushin Karate. At this meeting, we agreed that one of the most effective ways to increase our Canadian presence was to have as a base, the respect and open channel of dialogue.
Another reason why I was pleased to attend this special meeting was due to the presence of Shihan Kanamura and Shihan Shichinohe. Shihan Kanamura was one of the closest members to Sosai Mas Oyama. We were honored to listen to this man’s rich memories, his training, and about his friendship with Sosai. Shihan Kanamura, is a great Master who expresses himself with complete confidence, determination, and a great sense of humor. Moreover, I am convinced that the President of IKO, Shihan Shichinohe, through his simplistic approach, his great listening skills and his patience make him a true dignitary.
Allow me to reiterate the significance of this meeting between Japan, the United States and Canada. This meeting has taught us different things, and we should share this enriching experience with our students and our members.
I want to personally thank the President of NAKO, Shihan Henrioh, to have given the FKCO a chance to be members of this great family.
Kyokushin, the ultimate truth, the way of the heart.
Shihan Camille Ohan
