The Karate History of Camille Ohan

Founder: Camille Ohan The founder Camille Ohan

Shihan Camille Ohan was born in Heliopolis, Egypt, in 1949. He began karate with the Samourai style at the age of 9 with scouts "Wadi El Nil". He immigrated to Canada in 1968 to work and make a future for himself.

In 1969, he registered with Samourai Karate Montreal North under the direction of Sensei Tony Volpato and Sensei Robert Barbeau, both former students of Master Roger Lesourd.

In 1978, Shihan Camille Ohan discovered the style of Kyokushin founded by Matsutatsu Oyama through Sensei Pierre Latour, former student of Andre Gilbert. Camille Ohan was the first Brown Belt to teach in his own school, Spa St. Leonard in 1979, which was affilated with Pierre Latour Centre.

In 1983, the Pierre Latour Centre, in the presence of Camille Ohan, became affiliated with the organization of Andre Coulombe KyokushinKai Karate International. Master Andre Coulombe, a well known traditional instructor, had received his 6th Dan, May 14th, 1991, from Mas Oyama of Tokyo, 10th Dan and received his 7th Dan, February 23, 1993, from Matayoshi of Japan, 10th Dan.

Remaining the head of Spa ST. Leonard, Camille Ohan became director of Kobudo Okianwa and Co-Director of Kyokushin. Sensei Pierre Latour and Camille Ohan developed and offered a vigorous training to their professional Kyokushin black belts.

On April 26th, 1994, the world of Karate lost the true flame of Kyokushin with the death of it founder Masutatsu Oyama (1923 - 1994).

It had been Shihan Camille Ohan's goal to meet the creator of the style that he believed in so strongly. It was at this time that he began to search in the international development of Kyokushin.

Shihan Camille Ohan Seeing the disorder and the division among the two I.K.O. world organizations, he decided to affiliate himself with his heart's choice.

Camille Ohan was awarded his 5th dan by Matayoshi of Japan on behalf of Mas Oyama, in 1995 and as Branch Chief of Canada, Shihan Camille Ohan, in August 1997, associated himself with Shihan Henrioh Zephirin, Chairman of NAKO,  and with Shihan Nishida Yukio, President of I.K.O to assure his continued growth and recognition with these two organizations.

Camille Ohan and Oshiro In an effort to protect his students' rights towards the way of Kyokushin Karate and Okinawan Kobudo, Shihan Camille Ohan decided to create his own federation called Federation Karate Kyokushin Kobudo Camille Ohan (FKCO), in July 1998

The FKCO will be responsible for the future of students in Canada, administered by a Canadian team that is involved at the international level.

Shihan Camille Ohan is in the process of fully developing his FKCO Organization and is sharing with his students a training with an ultimately true association.
