FKCO Compétition 2001

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONNAT KYOKUSHIN

FKCO 2001

NOVEMBER 2001

5th EDITION at COLLÈGE LAVAL

From 9AM, all Karatekas as well as their family and friends were punctual at the rendez-vous point. They all assisted in a brief presentation to kick start the day, following a word from a representative of the Development bank of Canada, one of our generous sponsors who assisted this competition.

The competition comprised of two parts: Katas and Combat. The katas were tested on an individual basis.  Each court had many students presenting katas. The marks were very tight, and as a result the karatekas demonstrated their Know-how and, especially, their competence. Moreover, there was always to gain, because the organizers were generous and rewarded the first five positions. Indeed, the first three positions received trophies, and the fourth and fifth positions received medals. In conclusion, the event proceeded with great discipline and a great effeciency.

After a period of rest and a chance to setup for the next event, the tests of kumites (combats) began at one o’clock. The rules and advise were announced in the two official languages and, at the same time, were visually demonstrated. This test of kumites seemed to be a new experience for many karatekas and also a more demanding test for the advanced ones since, this year, the federation adopted, in addition to the "point system", the "semi-contact ". The combats were very balanced , but demanding much physical resistance, and judged according to the knowledge and the technique of Kyokushin.

The slogan of our competition remains " TOLERANCE ZERO " and the judges demonstrated this with their competence and prudence. This event was an ideal experience for several karatekas, feeling the joy of winning or the surprise of losing, but never demonstrating the lack of respect or confidence, since the judges are soley responsible for the points.

This fifth edition received glory and honor. Indeed, the majority of the parents and the karatekas appreciated the unfolding and order of the courts.

Finally, the new, long awaited challenge: the reunion of the black belts. For the first time, the federation officially launches this new category called " full contact ". Four combats of three rounds lasting three minutes. It was a beautiful demonstration well worth the wait, of skilled amateur fighters fighting in this kind of combat. This section of the event proceeded in the greatest security and vigilance.

This event concluded with a few words from Shihan Camille Ohan and the handing-over of all the plaques and trophies of appreciation and thanks. One memorable day for all the organizers, the judges and the students.
